🎢 Hurt at Carowinds? 5 Steps to Protect Your Rights
Before You Leave the Park
Carowinds draws well over 2 million guests a year to its 400-acre campus on the NC/SC state line, just off I-77 at 14523 Carowinds Blvd. With crowds that size—and 60-plus rides in constant motion—accidents happen.
If you’re injured, what you do in the next hour can make or break any future claim against Cedar Fair, Carowinds’ parent company.
Below are the five critical steps every guest should follow before exiting the gates.
1️⃣ Get Treated — and Document It
Carowinds operates two First Aid stations:
🌊 Carolina Harbor (water-park side) and 🎡 Main dry-park station between Chickie’s & Pete’s and Copperhead Strike.
Report to First Aid immediately—even for “minor” injuries. You’ll receive a treatment record that links your condition to the park and timestamp s everything for later.
2️⃣ File an Incident Report with Guest Services
Tell the nearest ride attendant or security officer you need Guest Services. Ask that an official incident report be completed and request a copy or reference number. Carowinds’ own Code of Conduct instructs guests to report injuries or lost items to staff; use that policy to your advantage.
Why it matters: Without a written report, Cedar Fair can later deny the event ever happened.
3️⃣ Preserve Evidence on the Spot
-
Snap clear photos/video of the hazard (wet floor, loose restraint, broken pavement).
-
Photograph ride signage and surrounding conditions.
-
Collect names & phone numbers of witnesses—including employees if they’ll share.
-
Keep your ticket, Fast Lane wristband, food receipts, and parking stub to prove you were on-site that day.
Crowd cameras cycle footage every 7–30 days; prompt evidence gathering is crucial.
4️⃣ Seek Outside Medical Care the Same Day
ERs closest to Carowinds include Atrium Health Pineville (10 min.) and Novant Health Steele Creek (15 min.). A same-day exam creates a clean medical timeline and rules out hidden injuries like concussions or disk herniations—conditions insurers love to dispute.
5️⃣ Speak to an Attorney Before the Insurance Adjuster
Cedar Fair’s risk-management team and insurers will likely call within days, asking for a statement. Politely decline until you’ve talked with counsel. A lawyer will:
-
Send a preservation letter for surveillance footage.
-
Investigate maintenance logs (Carowinds has faced OSHA citations in the past).
-
Calculate full damages—medical costs, lost wages, pain, and future care—before any quick-cash offer tempts you.
